Those are US Bureau of Labor Statistics figures for employed workers, which is the honest baseline — and also the number most people are actually looking for. What you can bill as a self-employed contractor is a different question, and we cover it below.
One caveat on the occupation. BLS tracks this as Brickmasons & Blockmasons (SOC 47-2021). Stonemasons (47-2022) and cement masons (47-2051) are separate occupations and are not included. No state figure is published for Alaska.

What actually moves the number
Commercial block and structural brick pays above residential veneer work. Restoration and historic masonry is its own premium market, and masons who can also do stone or hardscape have far more work to choose from in the shoulder seasons.
Employed pay vs what you can bill
Everything above measures employed masons — W-2 wages. If you work for yourself, your billed rate has to cover a great deal that a wage does not: self-employment tax, insurance, vehicle and tools, unbillable hours spent quoting and chasing payment, and time lost between jobs.
